Germany: Open Judicial Oppression of Leading Opposition Candidate

An administrative court in Bayreuth shamelessly rubber-stamped a blatant political muzzle: Björn Höcke, the most prominent and popular figure in Germany's opposition AfD party (@AfD), was legally barred by the small municipality of Seybothenreuth from speaking at his own party's election campaign meeting in the local multipurpose hall.

Citing a brand-new, conveniently timed provision in the Bavarian Municipal Code (effective January 1, 2026) that allows restrictions when "Nazi-glorifying" or "antisemitic" content is "expected," the court upheld the ban—pointing directly to Höcke's prior convictions for using banned historical slogans and his "right-wing extremist" classification. The event can limp on without him, but the clear message is unmistakable: Germany's establishment will deploy any legal trick to silence dissenters who challenge the status quo.

Germany 2026 is no longer a democracy—it's a regime increasingly willing to use administrative courts as tools to suppress opposition voices ahead of elections. This is not rule of law; it's targeted political censorship dressed up as "democracy protection."
